100 Watt Productions and the Project, 12: Political Theatre with Youth

100 Watt and its group of young artists will share how they work, why they create, and how they move from process to performance/tour. This event will include a performed excerpt from their latest work 12, "a theatre creation that gives voice to youth with regards to the Climate Crisis and the future they feel they've inherited" followed by an open exchange between the artists and conference participants, led by 100 Watt's Artistic Director Kristina Watt.  The artists will share a preview of their current work in process, STUFF, which questions the balance between need and greed with regards to material possessions. In addition, in their quest for "inter-generational" bridges, the youth may pose questions to participants.

Kristina Watt is an award-winning professional actor, theatre creator, instructor and the Artistic Director of 100 Watt Productions. The company creates original creations inspired by a love/concern for the planet such as 12, While We Wait, WILD LIFE, and 12 Drops and 1 Moon. For the National Arts Centre, she co-developed THE THREE MINUTE PLAY FESTIVAL with Ottawa school-children, was the Artistic Director of the Third Wall Academy (youth aged 16-20 train & perform), served as the Ottawa Facilitator of Uth Ink (Playwright’s Guild of Canada), and created Our Stories (York Street Public School)—a project that allows immigrant children and less advantaged youth bring their life-stories to the stage.  As an actor, Kristina has trained and performed internationally; in Ottawa, performances include at the NAC, GCTC, St Lawrence Shakespeare Festival and at Undercurrents Festival. She is a Part-Time Professor at the University of Ottawa. www.100WATT.org
